The Eastern Delaware Nations |
Chief Mike Medicine Shield
Chief Mike “Medicine Shield” Taffe was ordained as Tallak of the Eastern Delaware Nations on December 27th, 1992. The blood ordination ceremony took place at the gravesite immediately following the funeral of Chief Wayandaga. Upon the completion of this ceremony Chief Medicine Shield became our newest “Grandfather” and the Chief of our tribe.
Chief Medicine Shield has dedicated his life to the people of the Eastern Delaware Nations through his work as the Sachem of our nation. He also works at educating the public on diversity through school appearances, prison programs and lectures. For the past 10 years he has worked closely with co-ordinations for the annual summer celebration at the Forksville Pow-Wow. The Pow-wow has become renown through out Pennsylvania welcoming thousands of people each year
Our Chief works at teaching and preserving the culture of Native peoples. His work to reclaim ancient sacred land for the tribe was a success this year through the purchase of Wyalusing Rocks. Plans are being made for a museum and other resources at this location such as: Dance classes for children to continue work on preserving the heritage of his people.
Chief Taffe also works with other Chief’s from other tribes through out Pennsylvania and the country in the continuing work of raising awareness and reclaiming rights for Native Americans. He is deeply respected and loved by his people for his tireless work and commitment to his tribe and the successes he has brought to them (most notably the purchase of the Wyalusing Rocks).
Chief Medicine Shield has dedicated his life to guiding the people of the Eastern Delaware Nations through the new millennium. The future holds many dreams for our people and our children because of our wise & gifted leader
